Henderson County High teacher files to run for state office


Frankfort, KY – Henderson County Agriculture Teacher J.T. Payne has filed to run for Kentucky State Representative in House District 11, which represents the entirety of Henderson County.

“This campaign will prioritize securing Henderson’s spot as a thriving community through policies that will attract high wage jobs, affordable housing, and modern infrastructure,” Payne said. “We will fiercely support the industries that mean the most to our town: education, agriculture, law-enforcement, and healthcare. I look forward to hearing the concerns of all Hendersonians and working together to create solutions for a better Kentucky.”

As a lifelong resident of Henderson County and native of Reed, Payne has remained committed to community involvement. He currently serves as Henderson County FFA advisor and is a member of the Henderson Farm Bureau Board, Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Henderson Republican Party Executive Committee, and Murray State Hutson School of Agriculture Alumni Board. He is also a past participant in the Henderson Leadership Initiative.

Following graduation from Henderson County High School, he went on to receive a Bachelor’s in Agriculture Science and Master’s in Education from Murray State University where he also served as student body President and was recognized as Spring 2019 Outstanding Graduate.

Incumbent Rep. Jonathan Dixon (R) recently announced his plan not to seek reelection. The 2024 Republican primary will take place on Tuesday, May 21st followed by the general election on Tuesday, November 5th.

Payne filed paperwork on Thursday to run for Kentucky State Representative in House District 11, a day after Dixon’s announcement.
