May 16, 2024 – Hopkinsville, KY – Hopkinsville authorities have made a significant arrest in a drug-trafficking related case.
The Hopkinsville Police Department’s S.W.A.T and Special Investigative Unit executed a search warrant on May 15, 2024, at a residence located on McKee Street in Hopkinsville. The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the area.
As officers approached the residence, the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Demarcus McCarley, attempted to flee the scene in a rental vehicle. In a dangerous attempt to evade arrest, McCarley nearly struck an officer on foot and then rammed his vehicle into a police cruiser.
Fortunately, officers were able to surround the suspect and take him into custody without further incident.
This arrest marks McCarley’s 12th encounter with law enforcement, including his sixth drug trafficking charge, all within Christian County. Despite previous convictions on drug trafficking charges,
McCarley has continued to pose a significant threat to public safety and the well-being of the community, according to a news release from the City of Hopkinsville.
The Hopkinsville Special Investigative Unit, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, conducted an extensive investigation leading to McCarley’s apprehension. His new charges include:
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer)
- Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree
- Operating On a Suspended License
- Resisting Arrest
- Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Cocaine Firearm Enhanced)
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Fentanyl Firearm Enhanced)
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine Firearm Enhanced)
- Possession of Marijuana (Firearm Enhanced)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
