The Union County Braves faced off against the Webster County Trojans in Morganfield in the 6th District Baseball Tournament semifinal game last night.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Braves would strike first scoring on a 2 RBI single from senior second baseman Landon Tapp and a RBI single from junior catcher Tate Nobles to give the Braves an early 3-0 lead heading into the top of the 3rd.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Trojans would get on the board on a 2 out RBI double from junior catcher Brennen Ferrell to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Braves would respond by scoring 1 run to extend their lead to 4-1 heading into the top of the 5th.
In the top of the 5th inning, the Trojans would strike right back with a 1 out RBI double by junior shortstop Micah Austin to cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 5th.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Trojans would strike again scoring 2 runs to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 6th.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Trojans would score 1 run on a walk to give the Trojans their first lead of the game and go into the bottom of the 7th with a 5-4 lead over the Braves.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Braves would respond on a 2 out RBI single from junior left fielder Caleb Carr to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra innings.
In the top of the 8th inning, the Trojans would be unable to score leading to the Braves in the bottom of the 8th scoring on a 2 out walk RBI single by junior shortstop Garret Shouse to give the Braves a 6-5 win over the Trojans. The Braves improve to (11-23) on the season while the Trojans season ends with a (14-11) record.
Braves senior second baseman Landon Tapp was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s while junior shortstop Garret Shouse was 1 for 5 with the winning RBI single on the night.
Trojans junior junior catcher Brennen Ferrell was 3 for 3 with 1 RBI and 2 doubles while junior first baseman Canaan Taylor was 2 for 5. Junior pitcher Pryce Pearcy was 2 for 4 while junior shortstop Micah Austin was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 1 double on the night.
Braves senior pitcher Waylon Wheatley in 5 innings allowed 9 hits and 4 runs while walking 5 batters and recording 4 strikeouts while junior pitcher Brady Greenwell in 3 innings allowed 1 hit and 1 run while walking 4 batters and recording 4 strikeouts on the night.
Trojans junior pitcher Pryce Pearcy in 6 innings allowed 3 hits and 5 runs while walking 5 batters and recorded 8 strikeouts while junior relieving pitcher Micah Austin in 1 and 2/3 innings allowed 2 hits and 1 run while walking 2 batters and recording 2 strikeouts on the night.
As a team, the Braves scored 6 runs and recorded 5 hits, 5 RBI’s, 5 stolen bases, and committed 0 errors on the night.
As a team, the Trojans scored 5 runs and recorded 10 hits, 5 RBIās, 2 stolen bases, and committed 3 errors on the night.
The Union County Braves will face off against the Henderson County Colonels in the 6th District Baseball Tournament Championship Game tonight in Morganfield with the first pitch set for 7:30 P.M.
