Lady Colonels Cruise to 1st Round Win

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the University Heights Lady Blazers in the Opening Round of the 2nd Region Softball Tournament in Hopkinsville yesterday afternoon.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Lady Colonels would score 11 runs in the inning, 3 of those runs on 2 different singles, 4 of those on 2 different doubles, 2 runs on an error, 1 run on an RBI fly out, and 1 run on a home run as the Lady Colonels would have an early 11-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd.

In the top of the 2nd, Lady Colonels sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Burczyk would strike out the side as the Lady Colonels would hold a 11-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lady Colonels would score 6 runs, 4 runs on three different singles and 2 runs on multiple errors made by the Lady Blazers as the Lady Colonels would extend their lead to 17-0 heading into the top of the 3rd.

The Lady Colonels would not allow the Lady Blazers to get a hit as Mackenzie Burczyk would record a no hitter and the Lady Colonels would come away with the dominant 17-0 win in 3 innings of play in the first round of the 2nd Region Softball Tournament. The Lady Colonels improve to (30-5) on the season while the Lady Blazers season ends with a (5-11) record.

Lady Colonel’s senior left fielder Alyse Rollings was 2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI’s while sophomore second baseman Ayden Bennett was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s. Senior first baseman Taylor Troutman was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI’s while freshman right fielder Saniya Shields was 1 for 2. Junior first baseman Anna Kemp was 1 for 3 with 4 RBI’s while freshman shortstop Maggie Grogan was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Senior catcher Hallie McCracken was 1 for 1 with a home run while sophomore third baseman Lauren Nordhaus was 1 for 1 with an RBI on the afternoon.

Lady Colonels sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Burczyk in 3 innings allowed 0 hits while walking only 1 batter and recorded 4 strikeouts on the afternoon.

As a team, the Lady Colonels scored 17 runs and recorded 10 hits, 16 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 4 stolen bases, and committed 0 errors on the night.

The Lady Colonels will face off against the Livingston Central Lady Cardinals tonight in  Hopkinsville at Christian County High School with the first pitch set for 5:30 P.M.
