Kemp No-Hits Union for Region Title

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Union County Bravettes in the Championship Game of the 2nd Region Softball Tournament in Hopkinsville earlier tonight.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Lady Colonels would score 3 runs in the inning, 1 run on RBI groundout by junior pitcher Anna Kemp, 1 run on a RBI double by freshman right fielder Saniya Shields, and a RBI single by sophomore second baseman Ayden Bennett, as the Lady Colonels would have an early 3-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lady Colonels would score 2 runs in the inning on a 2 run home run by sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk to give the Lady Colonels a 5-0 advantage heading into the top of the 3rd.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Lady Colonels junior pitcher Anna Kemp would strikeout the side heading into the bottom of the 3rd innings. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Lady Colonels would score 2 more runs on a 2 out 2 run home run by freshman shortstop Maggie Grogan to extend the lead to 7-0 heading into the top of the 4th.

In the top of the 4th inning, Anna Kemp would walk the first batter but then strikeout the next 3 batters to keep the no hitter and shutout alive heading into the bottom of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lady Colonels would score 3 runs, 1 run on a RBI ground out by senior first baseman Taylor Troutman and 2 runs on a 2 run home run by senior catcher Hallie McCracken to give the Lady Colonels a 10-0 lead with just needing 3 outs to come away with the 10 run mercy rule and the Region title heading into the top of the 5th.

In the top of the 5th inning, would put a nice ending to the game and strikeout the side for the 2nd time in the game as that would end the game with the Lady Colonels with the 10-0 victory and the Anna Kemp no-hitter and the 4th straight 2nd Region Title for the Lady Colonels and the 7th in program history. The Lady Colonels improve their record to (32-5) on the season while the Bravettes season ends with a (23-18) record.

Lady Colonel’s senior catcher Hallie McCracken was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. McCracken homered in every postseason game (both district and region tournaments). Sophomore second baseman Ayden Bennett was 2 for 2 with and RBI while freshman shortstop Maggie Grogan was 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run, and 2 RBI’s. Senior left fielder Alyse Rollings was 1 for 3. Senior first baseman Taylor Troutman was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI while junior pitcher Anna Kemp was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Freshman right fielder Saniya Shields was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI while sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Sophomore third baseman Lauren Nordhaus was 1 for 2 on the night.

Lady Colonels junior pitcher Anna Kemp in 5 innings allowed 0 hits and 0 earned runs while walking 1 batter and recording 12 strikeouts on the night.

As a team, the Lady Colonels scored 10 runs and recorded 12 hits, 10 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, and committed 0 errors on the night.

The winner of the 2nd Region Athletic Directors’ Female of the Year went to Lady Colonels senior first baseman Taylor Troutman as pictured above with her plaque.

The winner of the 8th Region which will be decided Thursday night, May 30th, at around 6 P.M. Central Time. The winner of the 8th Region will face off against the Lady Colonels in the Opening Round of the Softball State Tournament on Friday June 7th with the first pitch TBD.
