The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the McCracken County Lady Mustangs in the Quarterfinals of the State Softball Tournament in Lexington this evening.
In the top of the 1st inning, the Lady Colonels would score 2 runs in the inning on a 1 out, 2 run home run by senior catcher Hallie McCracken, as the Lady Colonels would have an early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 1st.
In the top of the 2nd inning, the Lady Colonels would score 1 run in the inning on an RBI single by Alyse Rollings, as the Lady Colonels would push their lead to 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lady Mustangs would score on a 2 out, 2 RBI single by senior catcher Karleigh Walker to narrow the deficit to 3-2 heading into the top of the 3rd.
In the top of the top of the 3rd inning, the Lady Colonels would score a run on a solo home run by senior catcher Hallie McCracken, as the Lady Colonels would extend their lead to 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 3rd.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lady Mustangs would score 3 runs, 1 run on an error and 2 runs on an 2 RBI single by senior first baseman Grace Henderson to give the Lady Mustangs their first lead of the game at 5-4 heading into the top of the 5th.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Lady Mustangs would score 1 run on an RBI groundout by senior first baseman Grace Henderson to extend their lead to 6-4 heading into the top of the 7th.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Lady Colonels would score 4 runs, 1 run on a RBI groundout by sophomore third baseman Lauren Nordhaus, 1 run on an RBI single by senior first baseman Taylor Troutman, 1 run on an fielding error, and 1 run on an RBI walk, as the Lady Colonels would go ahead for the first time since the top of the 4th and have the 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Lady Mustangs would be unable to score any runs as the Lady Colonels would come away with the big comeback win over McCracken County, 8-6. The Lady Colonels improve to (34-5) on the season while the Lady Mustangs season ends with a (31-8) record.
Lady Colonel’s freshman shortstop Maggie Grogan was 3 for 4 while senior Hallie McCracken was 2 for 3 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s. Senior left fielder Alyse Rollings was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while senior first baseman Taylor Troutman was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Sophomore second baseman Ayden Bennett was 1 for 3 with an RBI while sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk was 1 for 3 with a double on the evening.
Lady Colonels junior pitcher Anna Kemp in 7 innings allowed 9 hits and 1 earned run while walking 3 batters and recording 7 strikeouts on the evening.
As a team, the Lady Colonels scored 8 runs and recorded 11 hits, 7 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and committed 4 errors on the evening.
The Lady Colonels will face off against the South Warren Lady Spartans Friday night, June 14th, in Lexington on the campus of the University of Kentucky at John Cropp Stadium in the Final Four of the State Softball Tournament with the first pitch set for 5:30 P.M. Central Time.
