Johnnie Howard Pleasant, Jr.
Johnnie Howard Pleasant, Jr, age 81, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, at Lucy smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.
Johnnie was a volunteer fire fighter and fire investigator for Niagara and Zion volunteer fire departments. He was also an EMT. He taught CPR and first aid for the Red Cross. Johnnie was a very skilled woodworker and he enjoyed building miniature barns, and log cabins that he proudly shared with friends. He loved to paint landscapes. Johnnie retired from the county road department as a heavy equipment operator.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie “Howard” and Leota Pleasant, Sr., son Rodney Newman, brother Eddie Pleasant, and sister Carol Pleasant.
Johnnie is survived by his wife of 30 years Vera Pleasant, daughters Lisa Alvey (Greg) of Corydon, KY, Stella Wilhite (David) of Cairo, KY and Lani Yates of Henderson, KY; sons James Pleasant (Careena) of Corydon, KY, Mark Pleasant (Barbara) Broken Arrow, OK, Bobbie Newman (Sheri) of Slaughters, KY, Brent Newman of Henderson, KY and Drew Pleasant (Jennifer) of Dixon, TN; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to Johnnie’s Life Celebration from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home with Reverend David Salisbury officiating.
