MADISONVILLE, Ky. – Temporary bridge repairs are underway on the Kentucky 812 (Clay Street) bridge in Henderson to restore the connection for travelers on the currently closed bridge. Weather permitting, the bridge is scheduled to reopen Friday, July 19.
Reopening the Clay Street bridge has been an administration priority since it closed in May due to deterioration of the metal support structure. A construction contract to replace the bridge was advertised but no bids were received.
Engineers immediately began redesigning the project to address factors that might impact bidding such as avoiding utility impacts, material ordering and optimizing the project schedule when the project goes back to bidding later this year once a date is finalized.
At the same time, engineers also went to work designing a temporary repair plan that will allow the bridge to reopen at the end of next week. Repairs are currently underway, and are expected to be completed by Friday, July 19. Once complete, the bridge will reopen to traffic until the bridge replacement project begins. A timeline for that project will be determined once a contractor is in place.
