City Commission finalizes ordinance banning smoking in parks

HENDERSON, Ky. – At a special-called meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Henderson City Commission finalized an amendment to an ordinance that bans smoking in city parks.
In another amendment related to smoking, the commission amended the special events ordinance to allow permit holders to decide whether or not to include a designated smoking area for their permitted event.
The commission also passed on first reading an ordinance that sets downtown parking at three hours. Per the ordinance, those who park in the central business district regularly can be in a numbered space for seven, three-hour segments, or a total of 21 hours, in a Monday-Friday work week before being found in violation of the “scatter” portion of the ordinance.
The city has just completed a three-month trial period of free three-hour parking with a five “scatter” incident limit. The Commission has decided to expand the limit to seven.
The special-called Commission meeting was followed by a work session that focused on a mid-year review of the budget.
The next regular scheduled Commission meeting is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, on the top floor of the City building.
