Garry Wayne King, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on July 14, 2024, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice, at the age of 81. He was born on October 2, 1942, in Henderson, KY, to the late Howard “Shorty” and Virginia Helen King. Along with his parents, Garry was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth King.
Garry grew up in Robards, KY, with his brother and sister and attended Robards Elementary School. He later graduated from Henderson County High School. He grew up in a loving family and had a happy childhood. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood and was proud of where he came from. Garry was a devoted family man, and his love and care for his loved ones knew no bounds. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family throughout his life.
Garry was a loving husband to Marilyn King for 64 years, and together, they created a beautiful life. The two were each other’s one true love and lifelong best friends. They were blessed with two sons, Bart (Denise) King and Keith (Gina) King and his sister-in-law who they raised like a daughter, Josette Corbett. Garry’s grandchildren, Josh (Heather) King, Lacey (Channon) Younger, Keighly (Colby) Smith, Trevor King, and Kyleen King, and two great-grandchildren, Jaydyn Green and Kassidy Green, brought immense joy to his life.
In addition to his immediate family, Garry is survived by his sister, Debbie (Bud) Carlock and cousins, nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws, who will cherish his memory. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.
Professionally, Garry retired as a supervisor at Whirlpool, where he made valuable contributions throughout his career. In addition, he worked as a part-time mutual clerk at Ellis Park, where he enjoyed interacting with others and watching horse races!
Outside of work, Garry had a love for life and pursued various hobbies. He found joy in boating, golfing, horse racing, car racing, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball. These activities brought him immense happiness and allowed him to connect with others who shared his passions.
Garry Wayne King will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Garry was known as someone who had a big heart and a fun sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and make people laugh. Even in his final days, he was telling jokes and bringing smiles to others faces.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, as it was a cause close to Garry’s heart.
Garry Wayne King’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Garry’s memory will be cherished, and his impact on the lives he touched will never be forgotten. In the arms of God, may his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
