HENDERSON, Ky. – The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners finalized the levy and collection of ad valorem taxes at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
Both real property and personal property rates will remain the same as the past two years. (49 cents per $100 of assessed value for real property and 81.3 cents for personal property.)
The Board of Commissioners lowered the real property rate in 2017 from 61 cents per $100 to 49 cents.
The 2019 tax bills will be due in full not later than Jan. 3, 2020. Payment prior to Nov. 15 will result in a 1 percent discount.
Also at the meeting, the Commission finalized an ordinance that will shift the 911 service fee from “land line” telephone bills to water meters.
In making the recommendation for the change, the City County Cooperative Study Team determined that the decreasing use of “land lines” has placed the burden of supporting 911 emergency communications on a disproportionate segment of citizens.
The fee, $3.25 per billing cycle, was also finalized by Henderson County Fiscal Court on Tuesday, but it will still not cover the total cost of operating the 911 system in Henderson County. The City and County will make up the difference from their general funds with the City assuming 75 percent of the shortfall and the County assuming 25 percent. The change will take effect on Jan. 1.
In other business, the board:
- Heard the quarterly report from the Henderson County Humane Society, which is currently in a 14-day quarantine period due to an outbreak of Parvovirus.
- Approved a municipal ordinance accepting an easement between Henderson Water Utility and Mosaic Crop Nutrition.
- Approved a municipal ordinance accepting a memorandum of understanding between the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Henderson Police Department regarding the Emergency Response Team.
- Passed a resolution accepting Federal Aviation Administration grant funds that will be utilized by the Henderson County Airport runway expansion project.
- Finalized an ordinance making changes in the Code of Ordinances section on water and sewer service to keep it in compliance with federal and state Water Quality Standards.
- Amended the budgeted purchase of vehicles for Henderson Police Department from four patrol/pursuit vehicles and one sedan to five patrol/pursuit vehicles.
- Heard a proclamation celebrating the 100th anniversary of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
The next regular meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center. The regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24, will be canceled because of training and participation in the Kentucky League of Cities annual conference.
