Nora “Jeannette” Banken

 

Nora “Jeannette” Banken, age 86, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.

 

Jeannette married Charles T. Banken, Jr. on September 29, 1956. She always knew she wanted to be a teacher and loved kids. Jeannette retired from Henderson County School System after 40 years working as a first-grade teacher and even went on to substitute teach after. She enjoyed playing the piano, watching Miss America pageants, gymnastics, and ice-skating.

 

Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents George and Ora Chancey and her brother and sisters.

 

She is survived by her husband Charles T. Banken, Jr.; daughters: Robin Wathen, Theresa Steele, and Tracy Herron; grandchildren: Rebecca Skaggs, Joseph Wathen, Andrew McElfresh, and Megan McElfresh; and great-grandchildren: Devin Skaggs, Anna Skaggs, Tucker Skaggs, Genevieve Caballero, Guy McElfresh, and Bridget McElfresh.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to Jeannette’s Life Celebration from 1:00 p.m. until the service time on Thursday, Augusts 29, 2024, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Reverend John Brumfiel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
