HPD investigating threat made on social media about schools

Henderson Police Department is investigating a threat made via a Snapchat social media post.

Henderson County Schools issued the following statement via OneCall and its social medial pages:

“This message is to inform you of a concerning social media post that was shared with administrators and the Henderson Police Department regarding multiple schools in the U.S., including Henderson County High School, North Middle School, and South Middle School. In an abundance of caution, we treat all rumors/threats as if they are serious and we will have extra police presence at all our schools today.”

“The Henderson Police Department is investigating the post, and we wanted to make our families aware. We will continue to protect the daily educational process of our students. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”

The post on Wednesday came a day after East Heights Elementary was placed on temporary lockdown.

Henderson Police Department said officers were advised of a secondhand report on Tuesday regarding a person walking around with a rifle near East Heights. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Officers searched the area and did not locate anyone. Officers also spoke to school staff, and it was determined the lockdown could be lifted.
