Snow and ice workers will remain on standby in most counties
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2025) – After nearly two days of around the clock work to treat and clear roadways across Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2, activities in most counties will be scaling back during the overnight hours as winter precipitation moves out of the region.
As the snow moves out of the area, however, temperatures are expected to begin dropping later tonight, which can result in black ice forming along roadways that were previously cleared. Motorists who are out overnight or early tomorrow are urged to use caution as black ice is usually nearly invisible, but can be a major road hazard.
Henderson, Union and Webster counties plan to keep skeleton crews on duty overnight, while the remaining counties plan to send employees home on “stand-by” status. In the event KYTC employees are needed in those counties, crews will be called back to work.
For the counties that will be working tonight, motorists should be aware of the following:
Henderson — Crews will be working primarily to remove trees from “C” routes, while spot checking state highways and servicing snow and ice equipment.
Union — Crews will be working on tree removal and spot checking state highways
Webster — Crews will be working on tree removal and spot checking state highways
