MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 8, 2025) – Even with precipitation from Winter Storm Blair still on the ground, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 snow and ice crews are making preparations for Winter Storm Cora, which the national weather service expects to move into western Kentucky late Thursday night or early Friday morning.
Motorists are advised to be on the lookout for snow and ice equipment today as crews move around the district, restocking salt and salt brine at the KYTC maintenance facilities in all 11 counties.
Beginning tomorrow morning, pretreating actives will begin around the district. Motorists are asked to be considerate of equipment during pretreating activities as those vehicles will be moving slower than the normal flow of traffic.
As with Winter Storm Blair, the forecast with Cora continues to evolve as its arrival gets closer. As late as this morning, the National Weather Services indicated the possibility of several inches of snow between early Friday morning and Friday afternoon across western Kentucky. KYTC will continue to monitor the forecast and adjust treatment strategies as needed.
Snow and ice crews will be on standby beginning Thursday at midnight so they can begin addressing roadways as soon as it is needed.
