The Colonels came away with a, 79-58, win against the Hopkinsville Tigers in the opening round of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville last night.
The leading scorers for the Tigers was James Bradley with 19 points while Layton Giltner had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jonathan Hart had 8 points and 5 rebounds while Jonovan Leavell had 8 points and 3 rebounds. Jayon Bass tallied 6 points and 6 rebounds while Treston Kay added 5 points. To round out the scoring, Jordon Burse had 2 points on the night.
The leading scorers for the Colonels was Cooper Davenport with 28 points and 3 assists while Lacon McKinney had 16 points and 7 rebounds. Xavion Johnson scored 14 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and recorded 7 assists while Elijah Suggs tallied a triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Dwaine Moss had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Trajdon Davis had 4 points and 3 rebounds on the night.
The Tigers shot 3 for 14 (21%) from the 3 point line to the Colonels 5 for 17 (29%). The Tigers shot 11 for 11 (100%) from the free throw line to the Colonels 16 for 23 (70%). The Tigers had a total of 33 rebounds while the Colonels had 39 total rebounds. The Colonels tallied 17 assists, 8 steals, and 12 blocks. The Tigers committed 9 turnovers to the Colonels committing 7 turnovers on the night.
The Colonels improve to (23-6) on the season while the Tigers season ends with a (15-16) record.
The Colonels will face off against the Lyon County Lyons on Tuesday night, March 11th, in the semifinals of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School with the tip off at 7:30 P.M.
