Dorothy Riddle
Dorothy Riddle, age 90, of Bluff City, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Redbanks Nursing Home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born in Bluff City to the late Johnny and Mayme (Haire) Beals. She married her loving husband, Dorsal Riddle, on September 4, 1953. Dorothy was of the General Baptist Faith. She was a die-hard UK fan. Dorothy worked at Riverview School for many years and was known as “Granny D”. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with her many friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers Thomas Beals and Robert Haire Jr., her sisters Betty Clement and Lola Mae Beals, and her great-grandson Charles Thomas Lawless Jr.
Dorothy is survived by her children Leonard D. “Leo” Riddle Sr. (Kathy) and Paula R. VanMeter; grandchildren: Heather Ledoux (Jason), Dwaine Riddle, April Sutton (John), Loretta Riddle, Ashley Conrad (Sam), and Mark VanMeter (Amber); 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as her nephew Anthony Hefner, whom she shared a birthday with.
Relatives and friends are invited to Dorothy’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Friday at Benton- Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the funeral home with Brother Scott Stone and Reverend Tim Shockley officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY.

Ruby Powell, age 82, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in the care of St Anthony’s Hospice.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth King Beauchamp and John Ed Spencer; her sister, Patsy Lou Coley; and her brother, Hobert Spencer.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Owen Powell of Henderson, KY; daughters Cindy Spencer (Bruce) of Concord, NC, and Julie Scott (Keith) of Webster County, KY; grandchildren Victoria Spencer and Kayla Gabhart Chaney (Spencer); great-grandchildren Emma and Nova Chaney; and nephew Jeff Connell.
Ruby grew up in Henderson, where she was a member of IBT Church. She loved school and excelled in her studies, becoming a member of the Honor Society and participating in many clubs and groups. Her favorite quote in the yearbook was, “Be yourself and be loved by all.”
She graduated from Lockyear Business College and began working at Mead Johnson as a key punch operator. Later, she moved to Knoxville, TN, with her husband, where their two daughters were born. Ruby enjoyed taking the girls to all their activities, lessons, and classes.
She loved working with hands, especially ceramics, sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, and many other crafts. After moving to Concord, NC, Ruby enjoyed water aerobics, her “lunch bunch,” and book club.
After retirement, Ruby and Owen moved back to Henderson, KY, where she loved chatting with friends at the beauty shop and the Geneva Store. She was an avid reader and cherished the time spent with her family.
Ruby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was thoughtful, intelligent, gifted, and beautiful.
Relatives and friends are invited to Ruby’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Spencer, Keith Scott, Spencer Chaney, Jeff Connell, Mitchell Deep and Spurg Gabhart.
