Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Henderson County


CORYDON, Ky. (June 10, 2025) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred Monday night following an investigation of an incident where a Corydon man was allegedly threatening family members with a machete.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family disturbance in the 100 block of Eighth Street in Corydon at about 7:20 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.

When the deputy arrived at that location, he encountered Charles Powell Jr. 64, of Corydon. Powell was instructed to drop his machete and came toward the responding deputy, according to police.

The deputy discharged his taser, but Powell continued approaching the deputy. The deputy then discharged his agency-issued firearm, striking Powell.

The officer provided life-saving measures until EMS arrived, but Powell succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Deaconess Henderson Hospital.

No officers were injured during the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.
