Margaret Hilda Thompson McCormic of Corydon, Kentucky passed away August 5, 2025, at her home in the company of her children and under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.
She was born on July 26, 1933, in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Ralph and Lois Thompson.
Hilda was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and Murray State University. She began her life-long career as a teacher in South Carolina before moving to Kentucky where she taught for 30 years in Henderson and Union Counties.
Hilda served as mayor of Corydon, Kentucky in 1991 and again as interim mayor in 2013 when she was sworn in on her 80th birthday.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John A. (Jack) McCormic, brothers Neal Thompson, Billy Thompson, and sister Iris Thompson.
She is survived by her sister Nancy Mason of Huntersville, North Carolina; seven children Leslie Hoskins (Steve), John McCormic (Pam), Thad McCormic (Melinda), Brian McCormic, Ashley Wilkerson (Rod), Dwight McCormic, Matthew McCormic (Amanda); grandchildren Heather Lauderdale, Lee Walters, Adam Hoskins, Alison Throgmorton, Carlee McCormic, Michael McCormic, Justin McCormic, Phillip McCormic, Rebecca McCormic, Tatum Sterling, Joshua Wilkerson, Isaac Wilkerson, Jackson McCormic, Madeline McCormic, Austin Mosley, Tyler Mosley; several great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews and thousands of former students.
Relatives and friends are invited to Hilda’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, and from 4:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Chapel Hill Church in Henderson, KY. The memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
