Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

What turned into a marathon day at the Henderson Country Club, the Region 2 Girls Golf Tournament featured a 3 hour and 45 minute weather delay before play began and another 40-minute lightning delay midway through the round. The event finally wrapped up just before dark, making it a long and challenging day for all involved.

Despite the delays, Henderson County shined, finishing runner-up with a 321 to advance to next week’s semi-state round. Daviess County won the event capturing its fourth straight regional title with a 302.

Henderson County’s Meryl Grogan, Cameron Davis, Lucy Whitfield, Ainsley Dalton celebrate their Region 2 Tournament Runner-Up finish Monday at the Henderson Country Club.

Junior Meryl Grogan was the story of the day, winning the individual region championship with a 1-under par 71, edging Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds (72). Grogan is the first Lady Colonel to win the individual crown since her coach, Payton Carter Knight, in 2018.

Other strong finishes for the Lady Colonels included junior Ainsley Dalton (7th, 79), senior Lucy Whitfield (11th, 83), and senior Cameron Davis (T-15th, 88).

The Lady Colonels now turn their attention to the semi-state tournament Monday at Calvert City Country Club.
