HENDERSON, Ky. – The Henderson City Commission heard reports on proposed uses for the former Municipal Golf Course property in Atkinson Park and an option for the operation of the CD&D Landfill at its special-called meeting on Tuesday, March 10.
The priority for the landfill at present is to contract the operations of the CD&D landfill, said City Manager Buzzy Newman. No changes in other sanitation services will be considered at this time.
The commission also approved the selection of a design firm for two new fire stations by finalizing an agreement with KZF Design Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Additionally, the commission approved a temporary policy providing paid leave for employees should they contract the COVID-19 coronavirus.
It was the commission’s regular meeting day, but the meeting took place at 4 p.m. rather than the regular 5:30 p.m. start time.
The commission also held a well-attended public hearing at 3:45 p.m. to gauge citizens’ interest in applying for a Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant that would assist with the acquisition of property for a sports complex.
In other business, the commission:
Approved first reading of ordinances that makes some changes in the fee schedule and fine schedule of the Code Office. The last changes in the former were made in 1990.
Approved first reading of an ordinance adjusting the utility connection and customer service fees, which also had not been updated in years.
Approved first reading of an ordinance that increases the tax on insurance premiums by 1 percent. That decision is designed to assist the city with raising revenue for capital projects during these lean times when obligations to the state pension system are cutting into available resources.
Finalized an amended Fiscal Year 2020 budget and appropriations ordinance in the amount of $287,000.
Finalized an ordinance that changes how Henderson Water Utility expresses water consumption on its billing statements from hundred cubic feet (CCF) to gallons. This is in preparation for a phased-in upgrade of water meters, and was approved in February by the Water and Sewer Commission.
Consent agenda contained minutes from the Feb. 18 called meeting, the Feb. 18 work session, the Feb. 25 regular meeting and a bid approval for purchase of police uniforms and accessories.
The next regularly scheduled commission meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, in the third-floor Assembly Room. The board has a work session set for Tuesday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m.
