Elections Deputy Carrie Smith has announced that she’s running for Henderson County Clerk.

Smith, 54, has worked for 21 years at the Henderson County Clerk Office. She served the public for seven years at a motor vehicle deputy clerk, worked as the bookkeeper for 11 years while assisting the Elections Deputy. She’s been the Election Deputy since 2022.

“I’m running because this community is my home, and I believe in serving it well,” said Smith. “After 21 years working in the office, I have the knowledge and experience to continue serving the citizens of Henderson with integrity and excellence.”

Smith is a graduate of Henderson County High School and took classes at Henderson Community College and the University of Evansville.

Smith has been married to her husband Danny Smith for 32 years. They have one adult daughter Ellie Smith.

She is a registered Republican.

Smith said, “I believe in fair elections, and I take pride in making sure our process is honest, secure and well-run. I am committed to continuing the great work we do at the Clerk’s office.

She outlined her priorities if elected as Henderson County Clerk.

“If elected, my top priorities will be to make sure every interaction with the citizens of Henderson County be easy, respectful and efficient,” Smith said. “Whether you are registering a vehicle, recording paperwork, or purchasing a marriage license, I want the public to have a welcoming and timely experience. I also want to protect the integrity of our Elections. I want to maintain fairness, secure processes and full transparency.”

Current Henderson County Clerk Renesa Abner is not running for re-election and will retire at the end of 2026, following the November 2026 General Election.
