It was a special day for Brooklyn Gibson, who officially signed to continue her basketball career at Division III Asbury University. For Gibson, the moment was nothing short of a dream come true.
“I’m super ecstatic,” Gibson said. “Playing college basketball has always been one of my dreams. The coaches have been so supportive through my injury and the recruiting process, and I’m really happy to be signed with them today.”
Gibson said Asbury felt like the perfect fit from the start. “They were welcoming and loving. The first time I walked into practice, they told me what their program was about and promised to always be honest—even if I didn’t like what I heard. It’s a great community, and I knew it was the right place for me.”
The signing comes as Gibson works her way back from a knee injury suffered in June. She underwent ACL surgery in July and has recently begun running and jumping again. Her goal is to return to contact drills in December and hopefully suit up for the final stretch of her senior season at Henderson County. Gibson, a starter since her freshman year, averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds for the Lady Colonels last season.
Until then, Gibson plans to lead from the sidelines. “I expect leadership from Addy (Gish), A’Tylia (Green), and myself, even if I’m not playing. We’ll keep our tradition of playing hard, fast, and never giving up. From what I’ve seen, we’re bigger and faster than last year, and I’m excited about that.”
Off the court, Gibson has her sights set on a future in veterinary medicine. At Asbury, she plans to study equine science with hopes of eventually attending vet school.
She credits her parents, teammates, and coaches for making this milestone possible. “I definitely want to thank my mom and dad for always supporting my dream and pushing me to do my best. My teammates and coaches have been there for me on and off the court, and I couldn’t have done this without them.”
Despite setbacks—including a kneecap injury her sophomore year—Gibson’s resilience has carried her to this moment. Now, with her signature on paper and her future ahead, she’s ready to embrace the next chapter of her basketball journey at Asbury.
