Johnson, Bench Lead Colonels to Season Opening Win at Castle

The Henderson County Colonels (1-0) opened their season with a gritty 43-35 victory on the road Friday night at Castle (0-1), using a dominant defensive stretch in the middle quarters to take control.

Henderson led 13-11 after the first quarter and built an eight-point cushion at halftime, 25-17. The Colonels then held Castle without a made field goal in the third quarter, extending the lead to 35-20.

Junior point guard Xavion Johnson carried the offensive load with a career-high 24 points, knocking down a pair of threes and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Senior Braden Williams provided a spark off the bench with six points, while sophomore MaLaikye Taylor added five. Sophomore Jahmarion Isabel chipped in four, sophomore Mikey Woolfork scored three, and junior Zayden Martin added one point—the only starter besides Johnson to score.

The Colonels face a quick turnaround, returning to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against McCluer North (MO) at Paducah Tilghman High School.
