The Henderson County Lady Colonels (2-2) battled on the road Thursday night but fell 56-50 to Evansville Central (6-7) in a competitive matchup.
Central led 14-11 after the opening quarter before Henderson surged ahead late in the second, taking a 26-24 halftime lead on a buzzer-beating three from Maggee Melvin. The momentum swung back to the Lady Bears in the third, as they outscored the Lady Colonels to build a 44-38 advantage entering the fourth.
Senior A’Tylia Green powered Henderson County with 24 points, including four makes from beyond the arc. Senior guard Addy Gish added eight points and a team-high six rebounds, while sophomore Jersey Gardner also chipped in eight. Maggee Melvin finished with five points, Callie Burnett contributed three points and five rebounds, and Nevaeh Dixon added two.
Evansville Central was led by USI commit Maddy Shirley, who poured in a game-high 27 points.
Henderson County returns to action Saturday at 5:30 p.m., taking on O’Fallon Township (IL) at McCracken County’s Holiday Hoopla Classic.
