Colonels Punch Ticket to Generals Christmas Classic Championship

The Henderson County Colonels advanced to the Generals Christmas Classic championship game with a 60-50 semifinal victory over Marion County Saturday night at Thomas Nelson High School in Bardstown.

Henderson led 17-12 after the first quarter and took a 32-29 advantage into halftime. The game remained tight throughout the third quarter and was tied at 42-42 late in the period before Jarren Byrum buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Colonels a 45-42 lead heading into the fourth.

Henderson carried that momentum into the final quarter, scoring the first seven points to open up a 52-42 cushion and pulling away down the stretch.

Amare Stewart paced the Colonels with 17 points and five rebounds. Xavion Johnson, who sat out Henderson’s earlier game Saturday due to an ankle injury, came off the bench to score 13 points and grab a team-best seven rebounds. Zayden Martin added a season-high 10 points, while Byrum finished with eight.

Travis Little and MaLaikye Taylor each scored four, and Jahmarion Isabel and Mikey Woolfork rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

Henderson County (6-2) will face tournament host Thomas Nelson (4-3) in the Generals Christmas Classic championship game Sunday at 11:45 a.m. (CT).
