Lady Colonels Rally Past Bullitt East to Reach Queen of the Commonwealth Title Game

The Henderson County Lady Colonels stormed back in the fourth quarter to defeat tournament host Bullitt East 56-48 on Sunday in Mount Washington, advancing to the championship game of the Queen of the Commonwealth Holiday Tournament.

Henderson trailed throughout the first three quarters, falling behind 16-14 after the opening period and 27-20 at halftime. The Lady Colonels faced their largest deficit of the night at 39-30 after three quarters before flipping the game with an explosive fourth-quarter run.

Henderson opened the final period by scoring the first nine points in a two-minute span, creating points off turnovers with relentless full-court defensive pressure to tie the game at 39-39.

Senior A’Tylia Green delivered a career performance on her 18th birthday, pouring in a career-high 28 points, with 15 coming in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback. Callie Burnett added eight points and four rebounds, while Jersey Gardner finished with five points and seven rebounds. JaNyla Locher chipped in seven points and three rebounds, Maggee Melvin scored four, and Addy Gish had two.

Henderson shot 15-of-22 from the free-throw line and 6-of-17 from beyond the arc. Bullitt East went 8-of-17 at the stripe and 2-of-7 from three. The Lady Chargers held a 32-21 rebounding edge, but Henderson’s pressure defense forced 22 turnovers, while the Lady Colonels committed 17.

Henderson County (6-4) advances to the championship game and will face Cooper (5-2) on Monday at 4 p.m. (CT).
