Late Rally Falls Short as DeSales Holds Off Colonels

The Henderson County Colonels suffered a hard-fought 73-71 loss to Louisville DeSales Saturday night at Colonel Gym as part of the Faupel Automotive Group Colonel Basketball Classic.

Henderson trailed 22-17 after the first quarter and went into the locker room down 37-31 at halftime. The Colts used a hot shooting stretch from beyond the arc to create separation in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 56-42 after three.

DeSales finished 8-of-17 from three-point range, while Henderson struggled from deep, hitting just 1-of-7. The Colonels went 14-of-23 from the free-throw line, while DeSales shot 10-of-20 at the stripe. The Colts narrowly edged Henderson on the glass, 27-26, and turnovers were nearly even, with Henderson committing 16 and DeSales 18.

Henderson trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half but mounted a late comeback, trimming the deficit to a one-possession game in the final minute before falling just short.

Xavion Johnson led the Colonels with 19 points. Amare Stewart added 13, while Zayden Martin posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Travis Little scored eight points, Jahmarion Isabel had four, Brayden Dennis and Braden Williams each finished with two, and Jarren Byrum added one.

The Colonels return to action Sunday night at 6 p.m. against Louisville Atherton to close out the Faupel Automotive Group Colonel Basketball Classic.
