Lady Colonels Fall to Reitz in Colonel Classic

The Henderson County Lady Colonels dropped a 56-35 decision to Evansville Reitz Saturday night at Colonel Gym as part of the Faupel Automotive Group Colonel Basketball Classic.

Reitz jumped out to a quick start, leading 13-6 after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 27-10 at halftime. Henderson, which entered the night averaging 17 turnovers per game, struggled with ball security early, committing 16 turnovers in the first half alone—many coming on errant passes.

The Lady Panthers pushed the lead to 41-26 after three quarters and maintained control the rest of the way. Reitz sophomore Rhyan Wagner led all scorers with 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers.

Henderson finished the night with 22 turnovers, while Reitz committed 15. The Lady Panthers also won the rebounding battle 28-19. Henderson shot 3-of-5 from the free-throw line and 6-of-17 from three-point range. Reitz went 2-of-5 at the line and 6-of-19 from deep.

JaNyla Locher led Henderson with 13 points and three rebounds. A’Tylia Green added 11 points, Callie Burnett finished with five points and a team-high six rebounds, Bella Estabrook scored four, and Kenley Evans had two.

Reitz improved to 12-1 on the season, while Henderson dropped to 6-6.

The Lady Colonels return to action next Saturday, January 3 at 11 a.m. against Louisville Mercy at Bowling Green’s German American Bank Shootout.
