The Henderson County Colonels wrapped up the Faupel Automotive Group Colonel Basketball Classic with a 60-56 victory over Louisville Atherton Sunday night at Colonel Gym.
Henderson led 19-13 after the first quarter and took a 32-24 advantage into halftime. The Colonels continued to control the game in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 48-38 after three.
Henderson (8-3) placed four players in double figures, led by Xavion Johnson with 17 points and five rebounds. Amare Stewart finished with 11 points, while Braden Williams added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Zayden Martin chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Mikey Woolfork scored seven points and grabbed two rebounds. Travis Little and MaLaikye Taylor each finished with one point.
The Colonels were efficient at the free-throw line, going 20-of-28, and connected on 2-of-6 from three-point range. Atherton (9-2) shot 6-of-10 from the stripe and 6-of-14 from beyond the arc. Henderson won the rebounding battle 29-19, while turnovers were nearly even with the Colonels committing 17 to the Ravens’ 15.
The game was briefly delayed for 17 minutes with 14 seconds remaining in the third quarter due to a tornado warning issued for Henderson County.
Henderson returns to action Friday night on the road at Evansville Harrison with tip set for 7 p.m.
