City of Hopkinsville Encourages Residents to Form Neighborhood Watch Groups to Strengthen Public Safety

January 12, 2026 – Hopkinsville, KY –The City of Hopkinsville and Hopkinsville Police Department are inviting residents to work with local law enforcement by forming Neighborhood Watch groups, a community-based effort focused on crime prevention, communication, and neighborhood safety.

Neighborhood Watch is a proven public safety program that empowers residents to proactively protect their neighborhoods by staying informed, looking out for one another, and promptly reporting suspicious activity to police.

While officers patrol throughout the city, community involvement plays a critical role in preventing crime and helping law enforcement respond more effectively.

Residents who are interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch group are encouraged to contact the Hopkinsville Police Department at 270-890-1522. Once a neighborhood expresses interest, the police department will schedule a

Neighborhood Watch training for participating residents. The training will cover what types of activity should be reported, how to report concerns, and how neighbors can work together safely and responsibly.

After completing the training, participating neighborhoods will receive official Neighborhood Watch signs. These signs serve as a visible reminder that neighbors are engaged, watching out for one another, and committed to reporting concerns to police when needed.

“This program is about partnership,” said Mayor Knight. “Public safety works best when we work together.”

Police Chief Jason Newby echoed Mayor Knight’s comment, saying, “Neighborhood Watch helps residents take an active role in protecting their community while giving officers valuable information that can help solve and prevent crime.”

The City of Hopkinsville views Neighborhood Watch as both a service offered to residents and a community ask. By staying alert, communicating with neighbors, and reporting concerns, residents can help create safer neighborhoods for everyone.
