The Henderson County Lady Colonels came up just short Tuesday night, dropping a hard-fought 54-50 decision on the road to defending Region 3 champion Daviess County.
Henderson led 14-10 after the first quarter and carried a 28-26 advantage into halftime. The Lady Colonels were still within striking distance after three, trailing 41-38, but scoring was at a premium in the fourth quarter.
Only three field goals were made in the final period—two by Henderson and one by Daviess County. The difference came at the free-throw line, where the Panthers went 11-of-15 in the fourth quarter and 14-of-22 for the game. Henderson finished 7-of-12 from the stripe in the fourth and 9-of-15 overall.
A’Tylia Green led Henderson with 15 points and was the only Lady Colonel to score a field goal in the second half, aside from a third-quarter basket by Callie Burnett. Burnett finished with 12 points, JaNyla Locher added 11, Maggee Melvin scored six, Jersey Gardner had four, and Addy Gish chipped in two.
Henderson County drops to 10-7 on the season and returns to action Friday night on the road against another Region 3 contender at Breckinridge County (10-5).
