Health Department Warns of Increased Overdose Risk in Daviess County

The Green River District Health Department is urging residents to take precautions following a recent overdose alert issued in Daviess County. Between January 29 and February 4, 2026, Emergency Medical Services reported 13 suspected nonfatal overdose encounters.

This number is higher than expected for this time period and indicates an increased risk in the community.

The alert was issued through the Kentucky Drug Overdose Alert System, which monitors overdose trends using data from the Overdose Detection Mapping Application System. Alerts are triggered when a county experiences a significant rise in overdose-related emergency calls over a short period of time.

The Green River District Health Department encourages individuals at risk of overdose, along with their friends and families, to take the following steps to help prevent overdose and protect one another:

  • Carry naloxone and use it if an overdose is suspected
  • Learn the signs of an overdose
  • Call 911 immediately if you think someone is overdosing
  • Share overdose prevention resources with friends, family, and neighbors

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses and save lives. Because fentanyl has been found in many types of unregulated drugs, naloxone may be effective even when opioids are not expected. Naloxone is available at multiple distribution sites throughout the region.

Locations can be found at healthdepartment.org/naloxone. Individuals without local access can visit findnaloxonenowky.org.

Harm reduction services, including syringe exchange are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Daviess County Health Center and the Henderson County Health Center.

These services offer clean supplies, safe disposal options, naloxone and connections to health care and recovery support. More information is available at healthdepartment.org/green-river-exchange.

The Green River District Health Department remains said it committed to protecting the health and safety of  the community and encourages residents to use available resources and look out for one another.
