Lions Club Auction Tickets on Sale

Henderson Lions club members are busy selling tickets for the Lions One Night Live Auction, a tradition that started in the early 1950’s and continues today.

The auction is set for Saturday, February 21st. The event will be held at Rookies Sports Bar and Restaurant in downtown Henderson.

The so-called “Gold Tickets” still cost $75.00 each for a fun evening that includes a dinner and lots of live auction activity to support the Lions in their efforts to make Henderson a better place to live.

Tickets are available from Lions members, the Henderson Lions Facebook page or at hendersonlions.org.

Just a few of the items to be auctioned off this year include a beach getaway at a 4-bedroom Destin condo, 2 tickets and 2 VIP backstage tours for the Grand Old Opry, build your own taco bar for 10, all-inclusive landscaping package, a Porsche stick-shift driving experience, a weekend at The Nest, a downtown Henderson loft, a private tour of the new Rhythm River Distillery, 40 radio spots, a $2500 crawl space, and lots of bourbon!

The money raised at the one-night live auction stays in the community. The Lions use it to support eye care and providing eyeglasses to those who cannot afford them, grants to local nonprofit organizations and scholarships for local high school seniors.

As part of its sight conservation program, the Lions screen local school children in grades 1,3,5 for eye problems, with the Help of the Henderson Community College nursing program.

The auction started on local radio in the early 1950’s, moved to cable television in the 1970’s, and transitioned to both live and on-line in the early 2010’s.

It became a one-night live auction about 8 years ago. The event raised nearly $40,000 last year.
