Colonels Push Streak to 10 with Win Over Trinity


Henderson County picked up its tenth consecutive win Saturday night at home, improving to 21-4 with a 60-46 victory over Louisville Trinity.

Henderson led 14-4 after the first quarter, closing the period on a 10-0 run capped by an Amare Stewart corner three at the buzzer. The Colonels pushed the lead to 24-12 in the second quarter, but Trinity scored the final seven points of the half to cut the deficit to 24-19 at the break.

Trinity played most of the opening half without senior standout Jayden Johnson, who picked up three offensive fouls against MaLaikye Taylor’s defense.

Henderson regained control in the third quarter, extending the lead to 44-30 entering the fourth.

Henderson shot 14-18 from the free throw line and 4-7 from three. Trinity went 4-6 from the line and 6-19 from deep. Trinity edged Henderson on the boards 26-24, and each team committed 11 turnovers.

Amare Stewart led the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Xavion Johnson added 17 points and 2 rebounds. Zayden Martin finished with 17 points and 2 rebounds. Travis Little had 5 points and 3 rebounds. Jarren Byrum scored 3. Braden Williams had 2 points and 3 rebounds. JahMarion Isabel added 1 point.

The 10-game winning streak is Henderson’s longest since the 2014-2015 season, when the Colonels won 14 straight.

Henderson is back in action Monday at 7:30pm for its home finale against Muhlenberg County.
