Authorities are investigating an apparent suicide of a Utica man who was accused of rape and sodomy.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Daviess County Coroner’s Office responded to the apparent suicide of David Rodgers, 40, of Utica, at around 9:45 a.m. Thursday near his Utica residence. Rodgers is a former pastor.
KSP Troopers arrested Rodgers on Monday night following an investigation into allegations involving a juvenile. Police said the investigation revelated that Rodgers engaged in a sexual relationship with a juvenile through at position of special trust.
Rodgers was charged with third-degree rape, second-degree sodomy (position of authority), first-degree sexual abuse, procuring or promoting use of a minor by electronic means, possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor under the age of 12.
Rodgers was then lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.
Kentucky State Police protocol is to keep a current investigation open until an official death certificate is issued, at which time a formal request to clear the case will be filed with the Daviess County Courts.
