Lady Colonels Dominate District Championship Game

The Henderson County Lady Colonels dominated the Webster County Lady Trojans 73-9 Wednesday night in Dixon to capture the 6th District Tournament championship.

Henderson scored the first 29 points of the game and did not allow Webster to score until the 5:42 mark of the second quarter. The Lady Colonels led 25-0 after the first quarter and 46-4 at halftime. A running clock was in effect for the entire second half, with Henderson holding a 58-6 advantage after three.

It was Henderson’s best three-point shooting performance of the season, going 11-23 from beyond the arc while also finishing 10-14 at the free-throw line. Webster shot 1-8 from three and 2-12 from the line. Henderson controlled the glass 29-14, committed 9 turnovers, and forced 26 from the Lady Trojans.

JaNyla Locher led the way with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Addy Gish and Maggee Melvin each added 11 points and 3 rebounds, while Jersey Gardner also scored 11 points. Estelle Erbst finished with 10 points. Peyton London and Pacey Parker each scored 3. Callie Burnett had 2 points and 4 rebounds, Kenley Evans 2 points and 5 rebounds, Nevaeh Dixon 2 points and 3 rebounds, Bella Estabrook 2 points, and Brynn Rideout added 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Henderson played without senior A’Tylia Green, who is nursing a turned ankle suffered in last week’s regular-season finale. Head coach Stephen Haile expects Green to return for next week’s regional tournament.

The district title is the 28th in program history and the sixth straight for Henderson County. The Lady Colonels will play either Monday or Tuesday next week in the Region 2 Tournament at Hopkins County Central High School in Mortons Gap. Their opponent will be determined at Saturday morning’s regional draw.
