A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin a routine inspection of the Western Kentucky Parkway bridge spanning the Green River at the Muhlenberg/Ohio County line next week (65.5 mm).
The inspection will require temporary lane restrictions.
Beginning Monday, March 9, crews will close the eastbound right lane across the bridge to allow inspectors to safely evaluate the structure. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the work zone.
The inspection will utilize a specialized piece of equipment commonly referred to as a “snooper truck.” This vehicle is designed to extend below the bridge deck, allowing trained inspectors to access and visually examine the bridge’s substructure without disrupting traffic more than necessary.
Inspection work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day from March 9 through March 13. Work will begin on the eastbound side of the parkway, then move to the westbound slow lane once completed.
Routine bridge inspections are a critical component of KYTC’s ongoing efforts to maintain the safety and integrity of Kentucky’s transportation infrastructure.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed, stay alert, and watch for signage and personnel when traveling through the area.
Updates will be provided as necessary.
