Colonels Advance with Win Over Christian

The Henderson County Colonels defeated the Christian County Colonels 52-39 Wednesday night in the Region 2 Tournament quarterfinals at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

Christian County grabbed an early 4-3 lead, but Henderson responded with a 14-0 run and closed the first quarter ahead 19-9. Both teams scored 12 points in the second quarter, sending the Colonels into halftime with a 31-21 advantage. Henderson extended the lead to 39-28 after a defensive-minded third quarter and maintained control the rest of the way.

Henderson shot 12-20 from the free-throw line and 2-7 from three-point range. Christian County finished 7-8 at the line and 2-10 from beyond the arc. Henderson committed 9 turnovers while forcing 12 and controlled the boards 30-22.

Xavion Johnson led the way with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Amare Stewart added 12 points and 2 rebounds, knocking down a pair of threes. Zayden Martin finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Braden Williams provided 9 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Travis Little added 4 points and 5 rebounds, while Jaden Byrum scored 2 and Kingston Shidler chipped in 1.

Henderson advances to face the Hopkins County Central Storm in the Region 2 semifinals Monday night at 6 p.m.
