I am the Foundation Chair for our local Rotary Club and the former Board Chair for our local United Way, former Board President for our local Habitat for Humanity, and a former Board member of Henderson Family YMCA and the Henderson Area Arts Alliance.
Why are you running for office?
– I am running for re-election because I believe in this community and want to see it succeed. I believe we have made meaningful progress throughout the community, but I am mindful that much work remains. As a licensed attorney and with an investment and finance background, my background and experience gives me a unique ability to understand the ordinances, resolutions, and budgets that we deal with in City government. As someone who is active in the community, I feel I have been able to see not only all of the things we do well as a community, but also some areas in which we are struggling. Since I have been in office, I have gone out of my way to listen to our citizens and be as transparent as possible. Being a leader involves not only knowing when to act on issues, but most importantly, knowing when to be quiet and listen to the needs of those around you.
If elected to office, what would be your top three goals?
1. Safety – Safety is paramount to the success of any community. We must continue to invest in our law enforcement, firefighters and first responders to provide them the adequate tools they need to do their jobs, and competitive wages to fill the openings we have in order to ensure we are adequately staffed and able to respond to the needs of our community.
2. Our Youth – We must continue to work to support the development of our youth by continuing to invest in their futures and give them activities to keep them entertained so that they may see Henderson as a place they would like to live after high school or college.
3. Economic Development – We need an economy that provides living wages for all who want to work. We must invest more in supporting local entrepreneurship and place just as much of an emphasis on that as we do working to attract outside businesses to relocate or open their business in our City. In saying that, I will continue to support retail and hotel recruitment efforts as those are industries that are very much needed in order to continue moving our community forward at this time. And I am hopeful that within the coming months we will have some announcements on the retail front.
Why should people vote for you?
– A general theme of my campaigns have been transparency in City government. Over my time in office since January 2023, I have made a point of engaging with our citizens, listening to their needs, and keeping them informed of what is being discussed and decided within City government. If re-elected for another term, I promise to continue being as transparent as possible, and listening to the voices of all 28,000 citizens all across our City. We see so much political divide in our country these days, and we’re so uniquely positioned in City government to be a responsive government that listens to our citizens. It’s their input that will make our City succeed and I would be honored to continue to serve and assist in those efforts.
