Henderson County Schools Announces Updates to Volunteer Program

Henderson County Schools has announced updates to its volunteer program, reinforcing its commitment to family engagement while removing barriers for community members who wish to serve.

Volunteers play an essential role in Henderson County Schools. Their guidance and involvement support students’ academic, social, and personal success, while also helping staff meet the many needs within our schools.

Starting Wednesday, Henderson County Schools will cover the cost of required background checks for volunteers. This change ensures that anyone interested in supporting students can do so without financial burden.

“We are incredibly grateful for the time, care, and dedication our volunteers bring to our schools each day,” said Megan Mortis, Director of Public Information. “By removing this cost, we hope to welcome even more community members into our classrooms and programs.”

A volunteer is anyone who:

  • Assists in classrooms
  • Volunteers with PTO/PTA groups
  • Chaperones field trips (day trips)

All volunteers must complete a Kentucky state background check before service. Background checks are valid for five (5) years. Please note that certain volunteer roles—including coaches, overnight field trip chaperones, and classroom observers—may require more extensive background check procedures.

This announcement comes during National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize the individuals who generously give their time to support students and schools. Henderson County Schools extends sincere appreciation to all volunteers who make a difference in the lives of students every day.
