Gregory Glenn “Greg” LaRue, age 64, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 6:18 A.M., Tuesday, May 15, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
A proud Baskett cowboy at heart, Greg loved the outdoors, horses, hunting, fishing, westerns, HCHS Colonel sports, Alabama Football “Roll Tide Roll”, UK Basketball, and time spent with those he loved most. Greg was a devoted Husband, Father, Papa, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend who never met a stranger. Many probably remember Greg coaching their youth baseball team. He was a great mentor for local kids, including his beloved son, Adam, always helping them be a better player and teammate. Known for his quick wit, storytelling, and unforgettable sense of humor, he brought laughter and comfort to everyone around him.
He was also known for his incredible work ethic, dedicating 41 years of service to RC Cola before working at Taubensee Steel & Wire Company. Greg took pride in providing for his family and worked hard throughout his life. He cherished his family time, making memories on vacations and passing down life lessons to his grandchildren. His perfect Friday night involved grilling pork chops he bought at Sureway, sitting by a fire, listening to the Colonels on WSON, and winding down at home beside his wife, Amy, and their dog, Bella Mae.
Above all, Greg will be remembered for the way he loved his family—fiercely, faithfully, and wholeheartedly. His presence brought healing, stability, and joy to those closest to him, and his memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Clarence “Smackum” LaRue.
Greg is survived by his wife of 8 years, Amelia Murch LaRue; son Adam LaRue of Henderson, KY; mother Joyce LaRue; step-daughters Jessica Murch Larew (J.D.) of Henderson, KY, and Sara Beth Bickett (Payne) of Henderson, KY; sisters: Lisa Fuller (Kim), Teresa LaRue, and Kathy Belt (Rodney) all of Henderson, KY; grandchildren: Hadley LaRue, Harper LaRue, Emmett Pruitt-Bickett and Anson Bickett; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Bella Mae LaRue.
Relatives and friends are invited to Greg’s Life Celebration from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday May 26, 2026, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Reverend Barry Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Baskett Cemetery in Baskett, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be: Adam LaRue, Cory Belt, Brendan Belt, J.D. Larew, Payne Bickett, and Kyle Fuller. Honorary pallbearers will be: Brad Pinkston, Bryan Pinkston, Mike Utley, Thomas Pippin, Doug Gibson, Emmett Pruitt-Bickett, and Anson Bickett.
