The Henderson County Lady Colonels survived a late Pulaski County surge and advanced to the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Sweet 16 State Softball Tournament, edging the Maroons 6–5 on Friday afternoon at the University of Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium.
Henderson County (28–8) struck early with a three‑run first inning, highlighted by Kam Timmons’ two-out, two‑run double to left‑center. The Lady Colonels added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, building what looked like a comfortable 6–2 lead heading into the seventh.

Pulaski County (18–16) refused to go quietly. Brooklyn Thomas, who went 4‑for‑4 at the plate, launched a two‑run homer in the top of the seventh, and Ryann Sowder followed with a solo shot to pull the Maroons within one. A double by Kynslie Crabtree brought the tying run into scoring position, but Henderson County turned to Lilly Bennett, who induced a lineout to right field to secure the save.
Timmons (16–3) earned the win, striking out seven over 6.2 innings while also delivering at the plate with two doubles and three RBI. Saniya Shields added two hits, including a leadoff double that sparked the opening‑inning rally, while Ayden Bennett and Maggie Grogan each reached base twice and combined for four runs scored.

Henderson County’s aggressive baserunning also proved pivotal, swiping six bases and repeatedly pressuring the Pulaski defense.
Pulaski County was powered by Thomas’ huge day—two doubles, a home run, and three RBI—while Sowder added a homer and two RBI of her own.

With the win, the Lady Colonels advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal round in Lexington. Henderson County will play the 1oth Region Champion, George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals (37-5) at 7pm (CDT).
