Forrest Everett Cates, 95, of Corydon, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Joseph “Eddie” Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky.

He was born on June 11,1930, to the late Forrest Sr. and Bertha Cates. Forrest attended Western Kentucky University and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He also worked at Breckenridge Job Corps Center as the Librarian. He was a lifelong farmer, raising cattle and growing corn and soybeans.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Dixon Cates; his second wife, Norma Martin Cates; and his brother, William George Cates (Mildred) of Memphis, Tennessee.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Brown and her husband, Keith, and Angie Watson and her husband, Bob, both of Corydon, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Elijah Brown and his wife, Ryann, and Caleb Brown and his wife, Carly, both of Louisville, Kentucky, Lauren Brown McConnell and her husband, Jake, and Callie Brown, both of Lexington, Kentucky, Luke Watson and his wife, Jessica, of Robards, Kentucky, and Jesslyn Watson of Lexington, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Lily Brown and Brooks Watson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverend Nick Duvall (Chaplain at Western Kentucky Veterans Center) and Brother Byron Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, Kentucky.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
