EVANSVILLE, IN – Ascension St. Vincent Evansville’s Internal Medicine Residency Program has welcomed its second-ever class of 13 new resident physicians, who officially begin their specialized training this week. The successful National Residency Match culminated in these graduates starting their journey to spend the next several years in specialized training in Evansville.
Data shows nearly 70 percent of physicians often choose to practice medicine near their residency program. By training these talented doctors right here, St. Vincent Evansville is directly investing in the future health and quality of life for the people of southwest Indiana, according to a news release.
These resident physicians are immediately becoming vital members of St. Vincent care teams, providing essential patient care as they advance their skills under the guidance of experienced medical staff.
“Now in our second year, our program is innovative in its approach with rigorous educational experiences reflected in both inpatient and outpatient settings,” said Program Director Robert Ficalora, M.D. “They provide a large component of internal medicine care in the southwest region of Indiana. They are hardworking, trailblazing, and adventurous, qualities that make them uniquely suited to building and establishing a residency program.”
This residency program was launched in June 2025 with the explicit goal of expanding access to critical primary health care for southwest Indiana and serving the region’s rural communities.
