OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Henderson County Colonels put together a dominant performance Friday night, rolling past Daviess County 42-3 on the road to improve to 2-3 on the season.
The game got off to an unusual start after a shortage of officials and lightning delays pushed back kickoff. Officials from the Owensboro-Graves County matchup took over officiating duties once that game was completed, allowing the Colonels and Panthers to finally take the field.
Once play began, Henderson County wasted little time establishing control.
Senior quarterback Brody Belt led the way for the Colonels, accounting for six total touchdowns in a standout performance. Belt completed 15 of 29 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 73 rushing yards and two scores on nine carries.
Henderson County finished the night with 364 yards of total offense, including 168 rushing yards and 196 passing yards. The Colonels also moved the chains consistently, recording 18 first downs and converting 4-of-6 third-down opportunities.
Senior running back Kingston Shidler provided additional production on the ground, carrying the ball eight times for 52 yards. Through the air, senior wide receiver Hezzi Harris and sophomore wide receiver Jackson Loveless each hauled in two touchdown passes from Belt.
Loveless finished with four receptions for 84 yards, while Harris recorded six catches for 63 yards. Senior tight end Christian Haygan added two receptions for 24 yards, and senior wideout Landon Smith contributed two catches for 25 yards.
The Colonels’ balanced offensive attack kept Daviess County on its heels throughout the evening.
While Henderson County’s offense was putting points on the board, the Colonels’ defense delivered an equally impressive performance. Henderson held Daviess County to just 135 yards of total offense, including 39 rushing yards and 96 passing yards. The Panthers managed to convert only 4-of-12 third-down attempts and never found the end zone.
Daviess County’s lone points came on a field goal. Henderson County also blocked another field-goal attempt on the Panthers’ opening drive, with Christian Haygan coming up with the block.
The Colonels finished with 44 total tackles, led by sophomore linebacker Parker Shappell, who recorded nine tackles.

Keegan Chapman recorded Henderson County’s lone sack of the night, bringing down the Daviess County quarterback in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
The Colonels’ defense never allowed Daviess County to generate any sustained offensive momentum, helping Henderson County secure a convincing road victory.
With the win, Henderson County improves to 2-3 on the season and will return to Colonel Stadium next Friday for Homecoming night.
The Colonels will welcome the winless Central Hardin Bruins in their next matchup, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
