MACEO, Ky. – A Tell City man who unsuccessfully attempted to hide from police by hiding underneath the William Natcher Bridge was arrested over the weekend for multiple offenses.
Kentucky State Police stopped a passenger car at the intersection of Iceland Spur and U.S. 60 in Daviess County for speeding at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
The driver, 32-year-old Christopher Knabel of Tell City, IN, fled the scene on foot into a heavily wooded area. Multiple agencies established a perimeter to look for Knabel.
Daviess County Dispatch received a call about a man walking on the Natcher Bridge. Kentucky Fish & Wildlife launched a boat onto the Ohio River.
A short time later, officers located Knabel holding onto a beam underneath the bridge. U.S. 231 traffic was shut down in both directions as officers attempted to speak to Knabel.
He eventually climbed back on top of the bridge and attempted to flee. He was taken into custody by Daviess County deputies.
Knabel was charged with operating motor vehicle under the influence of a first-degree controlled substance, operating on suspended/revoked operator license, third-degree fleeing and evading, failure to produce insurance card, and speeding. Knabel was also served two outstanding unrelated warrants.
Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has pending charges for Knabel involving this incident.
