HMP&L replacing and relocating utility poles along Watson Lane beginning Thursday

Henderson Municipal Power & Light will begin a six-week long project to relocate and replace utility poles along Watson Lane on Thursday.

HMP&L Facilities and Safety Director Ray Nix said this project is in conjunction with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Watson Lane widening project. New poles will be placed in the widened right of way easement that’s part of the project’s phase one.

During phase two will be focused on the cutover and reconductoring of the power lines. Old poles and lines will also be removed to make way for the widening project.

On Thursday, the first phase begins at Sand Lane. Work will continue east on Watson Lane through the U.S. 41/Watson Lane intersection and end at Stonegate Drive.

There will be two to three crews changing out poles from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday for the next five to six weeks.

Motorists are requested to drive safely through the work zone, which may include one lane traffic at times, and obey any work zone safety measures.

Weather conditions and other factors could alter the work schedules.
