Authorities are searching for a missing Henderson man who was the passenger on a boat that capsized at the Green River Lock and Dam in Henderson County on Wednesday night.
Hasani Carter, 29, of Henderson was on a boat with multiple other people when it capsized, his sister Brandi Hemm told WSON on Thursday morning. The other people have been accounted for, but Carter is missing.
Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer said deputies responded to the scene on Wednesday night.
While interviewing the passengers, it was determined that Samuel Keene, 19, was the operator of the boat. Stauffer said Keene is accused of operating the boat while intoxicated or under the influence.
Keene was arrested and lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center. No bond has been set.
Henderson City-County Rescue Squad Chief Bryan Coghill said the search resumed at about 8 a.m. Thursday.
As of Thursday afternoon, Coghill said the search was still underway with boats in the water and rescuers searching the riverbanks.
Coghill said multiple agencies have responded. Theres a search and rescue team with dogs searching the banks, sonar searching the water and drones searching overhead.
He said that the search would likely halt at dark and resume once again Friday morning.
Fish and Wildlife are investigating the incident, including why the boat capsized.
Hemm said that one of her brother’s boots was located. She added her brother is a strong swimmer, but the current was strong.
“We just want my brother back,” Hemm said. “He could have crawled through the forest last night.”
She said Carter is married and a father. His 30th birthday is Friday.
The family is offering a $4,000 reward for whoever finds Carter alive. Hemm said to contact her at 419-233-0362.
