Henderson County Opens District Play With 37-33 Road Victory Over Christian County

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky.
— Henderson County football opened district play with a hard-fought 37-33 victory over Christian County on Friday night at the Stadium of Champions, using a balanced offensive attack and key defensive plays to secure its fourth win of the season.

The Colonels improved to 4-4 overall with the road victory, overcoming a strong rushing performance from Christian County in a game that featured plenty of offensive production, big plays and costly penalties on both sides.

Henderson County finished with 350 yards of total offense, including 163 rushing yards and 186 passing yards, while recording 14 first downs. Quarterback Brody Belt led the way with contributions through the air and on the ground, accounting for three touchdowns.

Belt completed 11 of 23 passes for 163 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He also carried the ball 15 times for 22 yards and two touchdowns, providing a key scoring presence in the running game.

The Colonels spread the rushing workload among their backfield contributors. Jack Dalton led Henderson County with 81 yards on 15 carries, while Kingston Shidler added 61 yards on 10 attempts.

Through the air, wide receiver Hezzi Harris paced the Colonels with five receptions for 88 yards. Jackson Loveless hauled in three catches for 43 yards, while tight end Christian Haygan contributed two receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Special teams also played an important role in the victory. Kicker Miles Pryor connected on three of four field-goal attempts, making kicks from 41, 26 and 43 yards. His lone miss came from 42 yards. Pryor also converted all three of his point-after attempts.

Henderson County’s offense converted six of 16 third-down opportunities but struggled to stay out of trouble with penalties. The Colonels were flagged 16 times for 161 yards and finished one of three on fourth-down attempts. They committed one turnover.

Defensively, Henderson County came up with several crucial plays to help preserve the four-point victory.

The Colonels recorded 41 total tackles, led by Parker Shappell with seven. Drake Davis Chapman finished with six tackles, while Luke Mann added five.

Chapman delivered a standout performance up front, recording two sacks and recovering a fumble. His work in the defensive trenches helped Henderson County limit Christian County to 304 total yards despite allowing 271 yards on the ground.

Harris provided one of the game’s biggest defensive plays with an interception returned for a touchdown, giving Henderson County a critical score in the back-and-forth contest. The Colonels also forced a second turnover with Chapman’s fumble recovery.

Christian County relied heavily on its ground game, finishing with 271 rushing yards and 33 passing yards. The hosts recorded 12 first downs and went two of nine on third down and one of three on fourth down. Christian County was penalized 14 times for 123 yards and committed two turnovers.

Running back Paul Abren led the Christian County rushing attack with 98 yards on nine carries and four touchdowns. DeAsian Harris added 34 yards on seven carries and another touchdown as the hosts accounted for five rushing scores.

Despite Christian County’s success on the ground, Henderson County made enough plays on both sides of the football to leave Hopkinsville with the victory and begin district competition on a winning note.

The win moves Henderson County to 4-4 on the season as the Colonels head into their upcoming bye week. They will return to action Friday, October 24, with another road matchup against district opponent McCracken County in Paducah. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
